The Svaneti is a region of Northwest Georgian.
Understand
Svaneti is a high mountain region in northwest Georgia, the homeland of the fierce and chivalrous Svans. An extraordinary and surreal land of towers, snow, craggy peaks, wine and dance, where the golden fleece comes from and where time has not only stood still but quite simply never existed. The entire region is a site of Unesco World Heritage.

Speak
Knowledge of Georgian is widespread, but the main language spoken here is another language of the same family, an unwritten Svan language. Russian speakers can probably get by in most villages where at least one person should be able to conduct a conversation in this language. A few young people and a few guest house owners speak basic English.
