getting there

By plane

From the airport Palma de Mallorca it is about 45 minutes by car or bus to Sóller.

In the street

A direct road leads from Palma to Sóller - the almost dead straight and well developed MA-11. Before reaching Sóller, you have the choice between a tunnel (no toll has been charged since December 28, 2017) and the older, extremely winding pass road. Using the tunnel saves about 20 minutes. For the approx. 30 kilometers from Palma you need a little more than half an hour with a tunnel, over the pass almost one. If you have time and still want to see something on the way, you can also go from Palma Valldemossa and Deià Drive to Sóller (44 km; 1:10 hours).

In addition, Sóller is through the very winding road MA-10 over the Tramuntana mountains with the north of the island (Pollença and Alcúdia) connected. However, this is so curvy that you drive much faster from Alcúdia via the MA-13 motorway (to exit no. 8 "Bunyola / Marratxi", then follow the signs to Bunyola and later Palmanyola) and then from the south through the tunnel to Sóller.

By train

Sóller is most beautiful with that "Red lightning" to reach, a quaint old train on narrow-gauge tracks, which starts from the Plaza España in Palma de Mallorca drives and crosses the mountains using numerous tunnels. The Ferrocarill de Sóller - its official name - is mainly used for tourism and is more expensive and slower than the parallel bus line. But those who use it are not interested in getting from the start to the destination as quickly and cheaply as possible, but rather to experience a nostalgic train journey. Where the term “red lightning”, so popular among German tourists, comes from is a mystery: it is neither lightning-fast (it takes almost an hour to cover a distance of almost 30 kilometers), nor are its cars painted red. Since Mallorca is an island, the train does not offer any connection to the continental rail network. The train runs six times a day from April to October and four times a day in each direction in winter. The trip from Palma costs € 25 for tourists, and € 40 there and back (2019). If you can identify yourself as a permanent Mallorca resident ("resident"), the ticket is much cheaper. In Sóller, there is also a connection to historic trams at the train station, which continue to Port de Sóller. A combined ticket for the entire route by train and tram from Palma to Port de Sóller is available for just € 32. Side of the railway company (also in German)

By bus

There are two bus lines that connect Sóller with the bus station in Palma (near the train station). Line 211, the "Tunnel Express", uses the toll tunnel, line 210 goes via Valldemossa and Deia. The Tunnel Express runs roughly every hour from Monday to Friday (also on Saturdays, but with a lunch break from 12 noon to 3 pm; on Sundays and holidays only six buses in each direction), takes a good half an hour from Palma and costs 2 for a one-way trip , 65 €, the line via Valldemossa runs every two hours, takes 1:10 hours and costs 3.90 €.

Only in summer there is a direct connection via twice a day Lluc and Alcúdia to Can PicafortHowever, this line is usually fully used during the holiday season, so that passengers cannot be taken. It is therefore advisable to get on at the start stop in Port de Sóller and to be there early. Also in autumn there are many hikers who take the bus to the mountains! All bus lines stop both in Port de Sóller, the port of Sóller, and at Plaça America in Sóller, just outside the center. Current timetables online

By boat

The port of Sóller is not regularly approached by passenger ships. The journey by ship usually leads to the port of Palma, and further by bus or train.

The only regular ferries follow in the summer as a tourist line Sa Calobra.

mobility

A tram connects the city center with the port, Port de Sóller. The route is popular with both tourists because of the historical carriages used and the charming route, as well as with locals who commute from the city to the port. The complete journey from one terminus to the other costs € 5.50 for tourists, and € 2 for Mallorcans and “residents”.
