The center of Southern Carinthia is the city Villach. Southern Carinthia has a special flair mainly because of its Italian and Slovenian influences. The borders of these three countries meet at the border triangle near Arnoldstein and the EU has also brought them closer together. In Southern Carinthia there are also some municipalities in which the Slovene language is still used, which is also what makes this region so attractive.

Southern Carinthia can be reached from the north on the A8 (Munich-Salzburg), on the A10 (Tauernautobahn) to Villach, then on the A2 (Südautobahn) towards Vienna to the Grafenstein exit (Exit 298, Klopeiner See) and on the main road towards Klopeiner See (St. Kanzian - Eberndorf ...).
From the east via the A2 (south motorway) in the direction of Klagenfurt to the Völkermarkt Ost exit.
From the south on the A10 (Tauernautobahn) to Villach, continue on the A2 (Süd Autobahn) towards Vienna to the Grafenstein exit (Klopeiner See) and on the main road towards Klopeiner See.

A car is an advantage, but not essential. In summer you can get around well with the trains and buses and in winter there are often their own ski buses to the major ski areas. However, especially in the late evening, some places are no longer served by public transport.

The sights of South Carinthia are primarily created by nature. There are actually only interesting buildings in Villach. But sights like that Tscheppaschlucht at Ferlach no Carinthian tourist should be missed.

Southern Carinthia is a paradise for athletes. Several lakes invite you to swim in summer. For example the one Ossiacher See, the Faaker See and the Weissensee. But there are also a number of smaller bathing lakes that offer cooling on hot summer days. The mountains of southern Carinthia, on the other hand, invite you to go hiking. The Gerlitzen above Lake Ossiach is one of the most popular mountains for paragliders and the Villacher Alpe has been a real natural paradise since the ski lifts were removed. Winter sports enthusiasts will also find enough places to pursue their hobby. The Nassfeld at Hermagor is one of the most popular winter sports areas in Austria. There are also well-visited ski areas on the Gerlitzen and the Dreiländereck. The Villacher Alpe, on the other hand, is ideal for cross-country skiing. At the foot of the mountain, also known as Dobratsch, there is an artificial snow trail and a nature trail above. Ice skaters cavort on the Weißensee.
