Sümeg was first mentioned in a document in 1292, the castle was mentioned as early as 1318. In the Middle Ages the city, like most other Hungarian cities, was of military importance. The city and its surroundings have a lot to offer in terms of tourism.

  • From Budapest: M7 to Szekesféhervár, continue on the 8 and Veszprem to Devecser, turn left onto the 7324, Sümeg is signposted.
  • From Zagreb: Via Varaždin, then the Hungarian M7 to Balatonszentgyörgy, then via Keszthely and Héviz to Sümeg.
