Veszprém is a city in Hungary. For the year 2023, Veszprém became the title European Capital of Culture awarded.

An archbishopric was founded here as early as 1009. The city of Veszprém counts in the Middle Ages Esztergom and Székesfehérvár one of the most important cities in Hungary, it becomes militarily as well as economically and culturally important. From the year 1276 to around 1552, the city experienced military setbacks from the armies of the Hungarian nobility and the Ottomans. Veszprém lost its importance at times. The city was also affected later by World War II. Veszprém is one of the leading university cities in Hungary today, the city is very popular with tourists.

Rail connections between Budapest and Veszprém are available, trains run regularly. 1st class costs around 2350 HUF. 2nd class around 1880 HUF.

Veszprém is also from Szombathely easy to get to, trains run regularly.

There is also a direct train connection to Gyor, this is quite attractive, but very slow and is only served at longer intervals.

Driving from Budapest: take the E71 / M1 in the direction of Székesfehérvár, Polgárdi. At Balatonvilágos turn onto the federal road 71 towards Balatonfűzfő. Change to the federal road 72 in the direction of Litér, then continue on the E66 to Veszprém. The total length of the route is around 118 km. Some road connections may be chargeable.

From Vienna or. Bratislava above Gyor, continue on the main road 82 directly to Veszprém. From Graz via the E66 (exit Ilz /Fürstenfeld - Heiligenkreuz - Forming - Vasvár)
