Bodø is a city in Norway. Bodø became the title for 2024 European Capital of Culture awarded.

The city is located on the Saltfjord, north of the Arctic Circle. The municipality of the same name is an important administrative center of the region. The small existing village was since about 1800 by the Trondheimer Merchants expanded into a trading and fishing center. As a result, Bodø received city rights in 1816. The city experienced an upswing from the middle of the 19th century thanks to the herring fishery. In May 1940 the city burned down almost completely as a result of the German air raids. Bodø is the seat of the High Command for Air and Sea Defense in Northern Norway.
