Narvik Located in the north Norway, north of the Arctic Circle and close to the border with Sweden.

Narvik has an important ore port. Ore from the nearby Swedish ore mines is made here Kiruna shipped. The special thing about this port is that it is almost year-round ice-free due to the Gulf Stream. The city owes its relatively mild climate to the Gulf Stream.
For these reasons, Narvik was of great strategic importance in World War II. On April 8, 1940, Narvik was occupied by German troops as part of Operation Weser Exercise. On May 28, the city was temporarily retaken by the Allies. However, after they withdrew in June 1940, the city fell back to the Germans. Much of the city was destroyed during the fighting. A memorial and a museum commemorate this period of occupation. After the end of the war, as in many other places, reconstruction began.
Narvik lives under the special circumstances that its location north of the Arctic Circle brings with it. In summer it is light for a long time and you can watch the midsummer night, the long winters, on the other hand, are a test of patience for the residents.

Narvik-Framnes Airport (NVK) is located close to the center, but only from smaller machines, the company Widerøe is approached.
