Oslo Airport Gardermoen

The airport Oslo Gardermoen is the largest airport Oslo and Norway with numerous national and international connections.

background

Gardermoen is the largest of three airports serving the Norwegian capital, Oslo. With more than 21 million passengers in 2011, it will soon reach its planned maximum capacity of 23 million passengers and is also the largest airport in the entire country. A major expansion of the terminal was carried out in 2017. The airport is modern and opened to passenger traffic in 1998, previously it was in military use. It is located about 50 kilometers north of Oslo in the Akershus Province. Oslo-Gardermoen is the hub for Norwegian Air Shuttle and SAS Scandinavian Airlines.

getting there

By train

The airport train station Oslo lufthavn stasjon (Gardermoen) is located in the basement of the terminal building. The airport train "Flytoget", regional and long-distance trains run there.

Flytoget Oslo S.jpg

The Flytoget reaches Oslo as a high-speed train in around 20 minutes. Trains run every 10 to 20 minutes. Every second Flytoget train stops in Lilleström, Oslo-Sentralstasjon, the main train station, and continues to Dramming with traffic stops in (Oslo-) Nationaltheatret, Skøyen, Lysaker, Sandvika and Asker. In between, trains run without stopping to Oslo-Sentralstasjon. The first train leaves Oslo at 4.40 a.m. and arrives at the airport at 5.02 a.m., the last train from the airport at 0.50 a.m.

A one-way ticket to Oslo costs NOK 180, with 50% discounts for children, young people (proof of age required), students (international student ID) and people over 67 (proof of age). Further authorizations for reduced journeys (e.g. for conscripts and recipients of social benefits) are not relevant for tourists. Different prices apply to other train stations. Tickets are available from machines, as e-tickets (previous Registration required) and, at an additional cost, available at the counter.

Tickets must be registered / canceled at the barriers when entering and leaving the platform using contactless machines.

Bicycles can be taken along at no extra charge.

Regional trains are a cost-saving alternative for those who have a little more time. Regional trains of the Norwegian State Railways serve the route Oslo - Airport twice an hour. You drive beyond the airport to Lillehammer or Oathful, or in the opposite direction beyond Oslo Skien and Kongsberg. In Oslo in particular, it is important to know the terminus, as there are few indications of the stop at the airport. Depending on the number of stops, the journey time between Oslo S and the airport is around 30 minutes.

Tickets cost 90 NOK at the machine or in advance on the Internet, on the train 130 NOK. Tickets for regional trains are not valid on the Flytoget, just like Flytoget tickets are not valid on the regional train.

By bus

A SAS airport bus runs from the Radisson SAS Hotel in the center of Oslo via the bus station and transport hubs in the suburbs such as Hellsfyr every 20 minutes on weekdays, and every 30 minutes on weekends to the airport and takes around 45 minutes. The fare is 140 NOK one way, so the bus is not really an alternative to the train in terms of price or time, unless stopping the airport bus saves the trip to the train station. Pre-booking on the Internet gives lower prices. Info page

With the taxi

In Norway, taxi prices are a matter of negotiation, much more than you would think the country would be. From the airport there are fixed prices for advance bookings from NOK 700, depending on the destination in Oslo (counter in the airport building). At the taxi stand, the ride can be much more expensive, the fare should be negotiated in advance. The same applies from Oslo.

In most cases, however, it is cheaper in terms of both price and time to take the train to Oslo first and then take a taxi from there.

In the street

The airport is on the Norwegian national road R36facing east to the E6 Oslo - connects. The N 36 runs to the west as a toll road to the south Oppland. The E 6 is the backbone of the Norwegian road network and connects to its northern end Kirkenes Cities like Lillehammer and Trondheim at.

At the airport there is a parking garage within walking distance of the terminal building (P1) as well as more distant outdoor parking spaces for which a shuttle bus operates. All relevant rental car companies are represented at the airport.
