Lillehammer is a city in FylkeDomestic in the southern Norway. The city is located on the shores of Lake Mjøsa. The majority is on the east bank. It is best known as the venue for the 1994 Winter Olympics. The wooden houses from the 18th century are particularly worth seeing.

The center is easy to explore on foot. It is only two streets from the train station to the Storgata, the central pedestrian zone in the heart of the city. Buses to various regional destinations start at the station forecourt.

120 m for ski jumping

Many of the newer attractions relate to the 1994 Winter Games and are located in the Olympic Park (Olympic parks).

  • 1  Lysgårdsbakkene, Olympic parks. The ski jump for the games is now a year-round attraction with an elevator (or 954 steps if you're fit) to the top. From above you have a great view over Lillehammer and Lake Mjøsa. Elevator there and back NOK 40 including entry to the tower, NOK 25 in addition for an optional bobsleigh simulation. The attraction is a 20-30 minute walk from the city center. Walk over the Fossgatan and follow the signs (Olympic parks / chairlifts).Open: in summer from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., in spring / autumn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in winter from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Norwegian Olympic Museum, Håkon Hall, Olympic Park.

Other places of interest are:

  • 2  Maihaugen. Europe's largest open-air museum with 185 traditional Norwegian buildings in miniature form.Open: in summer daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in winter daily (except Mon) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. After the opening hours from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., you can still visit the park (with the buildings closed) free of charge.Price: Entry: 90/75 NOK in high / low season.

There are excellent Winter sports. Lillehammer's Olympic Park is connected to the network of Sjusjøen and Nordseter via cross-country skiing slopes, and the Hafjell Alpine skiing area is nearby. In summer there are a few opportunities to hike and mountain biking.

The shopping mile becomes a little unsuitable Storgata (large street, which should better be translated as "main street"). It is lined with wooden houses, boutiques and restaurants.
