Galway it's a city Irish in the province of Connacht, capital of the county of the same name.
To know
The fourth largest urban area in the country, Galway is also a very lively city in the cultural sector. The calendar of festivals is very dense, often accompanied by carnival-like parades that delight visitors. Galway also lends itself to excursions to the rugged Connemara region that has served as the backdrop for many films, most notably "A Quiet Man" from 1952.
Galway was elected European capital of culture for 2020 together with River in Croatia.
How to orient yourself
Galway is washed by the River Corrib. The center extends on the right or east bank and hinges on the Eyre square where the railway station is.
How to get
By plane
All 'Galway airport Opera Aer Arann[link not working] with flights from Dublin, Edinburgh, London-Luton, Manchester. The airport is located in the locality Carnmore, 13 km east of the center.
Shannon airport where Ryanair planes land from Milan-Orio al Serio is 83 km further south (about an hour and 1/2 by bus).
By car
From Dublin there is a toll highway to Galway. Take the M4 westbound and continue along the M6. Follow the M6 / N6 for the remainder of the journey. Journey time is approximately 2 hours depending on traffic.
On the train
Galway Station is on central Eyre Square. Trains from Dublin. Information on timetables, prices and any promotions can be found on the website of Irish railways
By bus
The suburban bus terminus is on the side of the train station. Bus lines operate there Bus Éireann, Citylink is Go Bus. The latter two companies provide a direct connection with the airport of Dublin and Shannon's. On board the buses of the Go Bus you can connect to the network for free via wi-fi.

- 1 Galway Cathedral. Dedicated to the Assumption, Galway's Catholic Cathedral was built in 1960 on the site of the old prisons. The dome, 44 m high. reveals Renaissance influences.
- 2 Collegiate Church of St Nicholas of Myra.

- 3 Spanish Arch. Built in 1584, it is located near the river and is thought to have been an extension of the ancient walls of Galway that served as a passage for ships that had to unload goods, mostly wine and brandy from Spain.

From Mon to Sat 10 am-6pm. Permanent exhibitions by Irish artists and a rich concert program. The Galway Arts Center is housed in an interesting building that belonged to Lady Gregory (1852 - 1932)

What to do
Shopping
The main shopping area runs south from Eyre Square towards the Corrib. This pedestrian zone includes Williams St, Shop St, High St, Mainguard St and Quay St. Along it you can find all kinds of shops and craft shops, pubs and restaurants. The historic buildings and lively atmosphere make this area one of Galway's attractions.
Middle Street, which runs parallel to Shop Street, is a particularly good street to find a range of inspiring and creative local businesses, including the Irish-language theater "An Taibhdhearc", Cocoon design studio, Charlie Byrne's Bookshop and Kenny's gallery among others.
