Tabriz (Persian:تبریز / Tabris, Azeri:Təbriz) is a large city in Iran.

background
Tabriz is located in northwestern Iran, not far from the border with the Turkey. The majority of the inhabitants are of Azerbaijani ethnicity, which also has an influence on the pronunciation / spelling of the place name in German: "Tabris" is common here (= Təbriz), while in Persian the name of the city is "Tabris" (without "ä") .
getting there
By plane
As a rule, the journey is via Tehran take place - there are 2-3 flights a day.
Turkish Airlines also has direct connections to Istanbul.
By train
From the east bank of the VanLake, there is a weekly train connection to Tabriz and on to Tehran. There is a connection to Istanbul from the other bank of Lake Van.
By bus
There are connections to other Iranian cities as well as to Van and Erzurum
By car / motorcycle
One drives over from Europe Istanbul, Ankara and then continue over Erzurum and Agri to the Turkish-Iranian border at Dogubayazit. From the border it is about 400 km to Tabriz.

A first section of the subway under construction went into operation in August 2015. Operating hours are 6.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Friday only 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Initially, the ride takes place every 20 minutes. In 2019 a single trip costs 900 Toman, or 700 if you have a prepaid card.
- Route 1 initially ran over 7 km from El Goli to Ostad Shahryar with 4 intermediate stations. The extension to Meydan-e Sa'at opened in 2016.

- planned. Is to connect the airport with the north terminal, bazaar, stadium and south terminal.

There are no particular health hazards. It is better to avoid tap water, especially if you have a sensitive stomach. There is cheap bottled mineral water to buy everywhere.
Practical advice
Most of the residents only speak Persian or Azeri. English and other foreign languages are not widely used - in the large hotels, however, some employees usually speak at least a little English.
