The. Arrival is primarily possible from Thailand on foot. Mae Sai (Thailand) and Tachilek (Myanmar) are connected by a bridge. To enter Myanmar, it is necessary to leave Thailand (with an exit stamp in your passport). The day stay for Tachilek costs $ 10, the passport is withheld and you get it back when you leave Myanmar. The onward journey to Inle Lake is not possible from Tachilek by land, you have to fly a bit.
mobility
On the Myanmar side of the bridge there are plenty of tuk-tuk drivers offering their services.
Tourist Attractions
The ubiquitous tuktuk drivers offer a 2-hour round tour to the most important sights. It includes a temple and a Karen village.

shop
Take a sharp right at the border, because this is where the Tachilek shopping street begins. Flying traders offer all kinds of goods. Mostly it is Thai products that are sold again here for a small surcharge. But craftsmanship is also offered.
Beware of the hawkers who sell drugs, sexual enhancers and cigarettes from the vendor's tray for little money. The drugs are definitely fake. There are also some stalls selling animal preparations of dubious origins. Monkey skulls, tiger teeth, hornbills' beaks, or ivory craftsmanship should definitely not be bought as there will be problems on the way home.
A small market for local products is located to the east about 2 km outside of Tachilek (about 5 km from the border crossing) near a small bus station. Mainly goods for everyday use, i.e. live chickens, meat, toothpaste, clothing and all kinds of fruit and vegetables are for sale here.
