Tamási - Tamási

Tamási [tamAshi] is a small town and thermal spa in central Transdanubia in Hungary.

Tamási is located on a plain and hills. Simontornya found 26, Dombóvár 37, Siófok and Balaton 43, Szekszárd 45, Budapest 136 kilometers (by road).

History

First the Romans, then the Hungarians had a biennial there. The first Hungarian mention of Tamási took place in 1162, about its fort in 1315. During the Turkish rule (1541-1686) the fort was enlarged, but later the Austrians blew it up. In 1730 Tamási had the rank opidum, in the following century the main railway lines avoided the town, reason why an important progress did not take place. While socialism brought some industry, Tamási finally became a city in 1984.

Tamási is found in a temperate, continental climate, like full Hungary.
