Information

History

Targowa Górka, formerly known as Mileszyna Górka, is mentioned in documents as early as 1258. The owner was then Milesz from Górka, who belonged to the entourage of prince Bolesław the Pious, son of Władysław Odonic. King Casimir the Great, while in Poznań on June 14, 1343, confirmed to the owners of that time, Piotr the castellan of Radzim and Dobrogost Mileszyce, municipal rights to Targowa Górka. The later owners of the city were, among others in 1397 Wojciech of Górka, in the years 1390 - 1400 Boguchwał, Dobiesław and Bodzęta, sons of Jan Poraj of Bierzglin, in 1506 Barbara Górecka, in 1559 Spławski and Górecki of the Dryja coat of arms, in 1722 Turnów. From 1761, the property of the Drogoński family in 1793, Count Keyserling, whose daughter Adela married General Amilkar Kosiński - a co-founder of Polish legions in Italy. In 1870, the owners were the Żychliński family.

In 1458 Targowa Górka was obliged to send 8 soldiers to the Malbork expedition. At the end of the 15th century, the city fell into decline and lost its municipal rights. It regained them in 1559. In 1724, King August II granted the town the privilege of organizing 5 fairs a year and a market every Monday. King Stanisław August Poniatowski confirmed these privileges and agreed to organize four more fairs. In 1751 the Turns, the then owners of the town, settled German settlers here on a forest clearing on a rental basis. This settlement was then called Holendry Słowącińskie.

St. Michael the Archangel, already existed in the 13th century. In 1630, the castellan of Gniezno, Mikołaj Mielżyński, founded a new wooden church here. After a fire in 1739, it was rebuilt; it burned down again at the beginning of the 19th century. It was rebuilt in 1840 as a brick Kosiński family [2]. In the 16th century, there was still a church called st. Margaret, the church burned down in 1725 and a cross was erected in its place.

From 1628, in Targowa Górka there was a hospital for the poor, founded by Mielżyński. In the 18th century, 12 breweries were supposed to operate here at the same time. During numerous fires, the location document was lost. In 1793, the Prussian authorities no longer included Targowa Górka in the list of towns. In the 1880s, 424 people lived in 25 houses. At that time, the owner of the village was the Prussian king. A horse-drawn post office building from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, a church from 1840, a forester's lodge from the 19th century and a wooden belfry from the end of the 18th century have been preserved to this day.

On June 15, 2008, the 750th anniversary of the village was celebrated.

Worth seeing

  • The main monument of the village is the classicist church. st. Michael the Archangel from 1840 with a separately standing wooden belfry from the end of the 18th century.

The date of the parish's erection is unknown. St. Michael the Archangel was founded in the thirteenth century. The first written mention of the existence of the parish comes from 1364, probably by Górecki. Around 1630 Mikołaj Mielżyński, the castellan of Gniezno, built a new wooden church. Sufragan Poznań - bishop Jan Baykowski consecrated it in 1636. In 1739 it was rebuilt by Fr. pastor Kazimierz Sosnowicz. The wooden parish church from 1739 was demolished in the first decades of the 19th century.

In 1802, the wooden church burned down due to a lightning strike. Preparations for the construction of a new brick temple began in 1823, and were completed in 1840 by Fr. parish priest Jan Gniadczyński. The building was built without any uniform style. The equipment from the previous church was moved to this temple. There is a baroque main altar from the 18th century, with two floors. In the altar there was a figure of Saint Michael the Archangel on a dragon, on the sides there were two figures of saints and four angels. Bishop Likowski consecrated the church in 1892. After World War II, the front wall of the church was opened and two small side arches were created, analogous to the arch above the great altar. A chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was also created. The church is architecturally kept in the neo-baroque style. In the main altar there is a painting of Our Lady of the Rosary, probably from the 17th century. The church also has a late Gothic stone baptismal font.
