Taroudant is located in the east of the Souss plain in southern Morocco in the province of the same name.

By plane

Taroudant does not have an international airport. The closest airports are

  • Marrakech
  • Agadir

By bus

Daily bus connection by CTM from Agadir (Departure 09:00) to Taroudant (arrival 10:30) and further to Ouarzazate.

In the street

Agadir is 85 km to the west

Marrakech 270 km via the A7 (3 hours 15 min) or 230 km via the Tizi-n-Test (approx. 5 hours)

Ouarzazate 290 km (4 h 15 min) via the N10

With the taxi

Grand Taxis follow regularly Agadir and Inezgane. If necessary, there are also trips to Marrakech.

By bicycle

There is one from Marrakech Bike route via the Tizi-n-Test.

From Bab Taghount, the western gate, runs through it Av Mohammed V the old town to the two central squares Al-Alaouyine (Place Assarag) and Place an-Nasr (Place Talmoqlate) in the center of the medina. Most of the hotels, restaurants, banks and the post office are located here.

Grande Taxis and the bus station are in front of the southern Bab Zorgane gate.

Tourist Attractions

  • The 6 km long and 3-5 m high city wall with its 9 gates.
  • 1  Great mosque. Built in the Saadi Dynasty by Mohammed Ash Sheikh in 1528; Badly damaged by fire on May 7, 2013.[1].
  • White storks at the eastern gate
  • There are also plenty of pigeons, some of which nest in the square holes in the city walls. These holes were made deliberately to encourage nesting and thus provide the city with food in times of siege. Shooting pigeons is a popular sport, with the shooting season ending in mid-August.
  • Hotel Salam, formerly a royal palace with exquisite gardens
  • 2  tannery. Just outside the Bab Taghout western gate. In contrast to Fes you get very close to the tanners here. However, the colorful paint tubs are missing here. High quality leather goods are sold in the cooperative.
  • Souk Assarag. The Arab souk between Place Assareg and Place Tamoklate is home to the butchers and fishmongers, but also the jewelers, tailors and leather goods, along with stalls selling musical instruments and antiques
  • Marche Berbere The Berber souk sells vegetables, fruits, housewares and ready-made clothing and some excellent wickerwork.

  • 6 Oasis des Tortues Garrison town built in the 1930s by the French Foreign Legion. You can see the well-preserved remains. In the river you can find turtles, which gave the place its name.
  • If you cross the Sous plain you reach the Anti Atlas and Tafraoute
  • Tal der Ammeln, a valley about 15 km long on the southern flank of the 2359 m high Jbel Lekst in the western Anti Atlas. It extends 4 km north of Tafraoute in an east-west direction.
