The oblast Tyumen lies in the Russian federal district Ural. In the north it borders on the region of the Chanting and manners, to the west to the oblasts Sverdlovsk and Kurgan, in the east is the Siberian Omsk, in the south lies the neighboring state Kazakhstan.
