Geographical notes
It is the smallest state in Mexico and is bordered to the north by State of Mexico, Hidalgo and the state of Puebla that surrounds it almost entirely.
Background
Before the arrival of the Spaniards, Tlaxcala was an independent state in constant struggle with the Aztecs. When the Spaniards arrived, the Tlaxcaltecs allied themselves with them to fight against the Aztecs. Tlaxcaltec troops were instrumental in the conquest of Tenochtitlán.

- Apizaco - Its attractions are the basilica of Apizaco and the maquinita, a locomotive donated by the State Railways to be the emblem of the city.

- Huamantla - Added to the list of Mexican Magic Cities.
- Tlaxcala de Xicohténcatl - Capital of the Federated State of Tlaxcala.
