The legend of Trasimeno
The Trasimeno legend tells the story of the nymph Agilla and prince Trasimeno, son of the god Tyrrhenian. The legend tells of Prince Trasimeno who travels to the lands of central Italy, the ancient Etruria. On his journey he comes to the shore of a lake, large and covered with trees. He stops on the shore and, given the summer heat, decides to take a bath. The nymph Agilla sees him and is struck by the beauty of the young man; she decides to seduce him and with her song draws him to the center of the lake. But this causes such a daze in the young man that overwhelmed by emotion, he drowns. The legend still tells that the body was never found and that in his memory the lake was called Trasimeno. Since then, in the evenings of August, when a light breeze flies over the waters of the lake and makes the leaves rustle, it is said that it is the lament of the nymph Agilla, in search of the beautiful prince.
