Chongqing (重庆) is a large city in Southwest China and one of the four centrally-run cities in the People's Republic of China. The city directly under the Central Committee of Chongqing was formed on March 14, 1997 when it split off from Sichuan Province. As of November 2010, the total population of Chongqing was 28,846,200 people, but the population living in urbanized areas is only about 6 to 7 million people. Chongqing is divided into 19 regions (counties), 15 counties, and 4 autonomous counties.
