Târgoviște is a city of Muntenia, historical region of the Romania.
To know
Târgoviște was the medieval capital of the principality of Wallachia. After the reign of Constantin Brancoveanu (1688-1714) the capital was moved to Bucharest and Târgoviște declined. It still preserves the ruins of the princely court (Curtea Domnească) and other interesting attractions but the reason why tourists go to Târgoviște is to see the military school where the trial of the Ceausescu and their execution took place. Since it was established as a museum, the building has experienced a boom in visitors.

- 4 Sunset Tower (Turnul Chindiei). Symbol of the city. A wooden spiral staircase allows you to get to the top.
- 5 Romanian Museum of Printing and Ancient Books (Muzeul tiparului si al cartii românesti vechi). Set up on the ground floor of the (reconstructed) refectory of the monastery of Delau. There are manuscripts and precious 16th century books printed using the movable type method invented by Johannes Gutenberg in the previous century.
- 4 Sunset Tower (Turnul Chindiei). Symbol of the city. A wooden spiral staircase allows you to get to the top.
- 6 Stelea Monastery (Mănăstirea Stelea), Strada Stelea 6. Built in the second half of the 16th century with donations from a merchant named Stelea. The "Resurrection of the Lord" church was built between 1644 and 1645 on the site of an older one according to the inscription on the portal. It has a typically Moldovan style, very similar to the church of the three hierarchs of Iași.
- 7 Delau Monastery (Mănăstirea Dealu), Aleea Mănăstirea Dealu (8 km north of downtown). Erected at the end of the 15th century on the top of a hill. The monastery church dedicated to St Nicholas has Renaissance influences and is considered one of the finest examples of Wallachian art.
