In autumn one can observe numerous cranes, geese and other migratory birds that rest on Ummanz on their way south. The best way to do this is to go to Tankow in the northeast of the island. However, one should approach the birds with extreme caution, as any disturbance drains the animals' power reserves.
- 1 Bird watching station at Tankow - The spacious, covered observation point can be found in the northeastern part of Ummanz bei. From here you can watch the cranes very well, thousands of which have their sleeping and gathering places in the nearby Udarser Wiek.
