How to get
By subway
The main subway lines serving the Upper East Side area are the express 4 is 5 and the line 6 local, which run under Lexington Avenue. All stop at 59th Street and 86th St, 6 also stops at 68th Street, 77th Street and 96th Street. 5th Avenue is three blocks walking west from Lexington Avenue. Since these are the only north-south lines that pass through the east side during rush hour, trains can be quite crowded.
The southern area of this district is served by the line F. which stops at Lexington Avenue and 63rd St, and lines No., Q, is R. which follow 59th Street and stop at 5th Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Both Lexington Avenue stations allow you to switch on 4/5/6 lines at 59th Street station (F station is out of service and means you have to walk 4 blocks to 59th Street from 63rd Street).

Every avenue (except Park Avenue) from 5th to York has at least one bus line and there are also crosstown lines on 57th St. (M57; also M31, which doubles as York Av. Bus), 66th / 68th Sts. (M66), 72nd St. (M72, using 66th St. through Central Park), 79th St. (M79), 86th St. (M86) and 96th St. (M96).
