Uruaçu is a municipality in the north of Goiás. It has almost 40 thousand inhabitants. It is at the junction of BRs 080 (which starts at Brasilia) and 153 (which, despite the nickname "Belém-Brasília", runs far from the DF), shelters the Serra da Mesa Dam and is bathed by the respective lake.
Understand
Uruaçu had its origins in 1910, when land was donated to build a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sant'Ana. Thus, the village of Sant'Ana was formed, which, in 1915, already had some buildings, such as a school and another church, the Nossa Senhora Sant'Ana church, which would be inaugurated on May 15, 1922.Sant'Ana was elevated to district of Pillar of Goiás on January 4, 1924. On July 4, 1931, with Law No. 1.204/31, federal intervener Pedro Ludovico Teixeira decided to dismember the municipality of Pilar. The installation, in fact, only took place on the 3rd of September of the same year. In 1943, the Getúlio Vargas government decided, through the IBGE, to eliminate the multiplicity of names in Goiás, changing the name of Sant’Ana to Tapuia de Uruaçu, and in 1947, it was renamed Uruaçu.

- Serra da Mesa Lake- Formed by the Tocantins, Traíras and Maranhão rivers, it has become one of the best regions for sport fishing of fish such as Tucunaré, the preferred champion of artificial bait fishermen. Its waters are alkaline, thus hindering the proliferation of mosquitoes, mosquitoes and horseflies, making water sports viable. The lake is surrounded by hills with elevations that can reach 1400 meters in altitude, making the landscape exuberant. THE Generous beach, 7 km from the center of Uruaçu (by the road to Nikeland), has recently been improved and is a very popular space, the center of action at carnival and on holidays.
