Vielsalm is a town Belgian located in Wallonia in the Luxembourg province. It has about 7,000 inhabitants.
Understand
The town is located in the extreme northeast of the province and borders the province of Liège and municipalities of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. It is home to the highest point in the province, located at Baraque de Fraiture.
In the Middle Ages, Vielsalm was the seat of the small county of the same name where the first counts of the Salm family ruled. This family spread to Germany and France.
Slate and coticule, a sharpening stone, were used in Vielsalm in the past.
