The little place Villa Ciudad de America lies on the northern edge of the Molinos reservoir, one of the largest in northern and central Argentina, in the Sierras de Cordoba. It is equally popular with bathers and anglers and has so far not lost its calm to mass tourism.
background
In the middle of a hilly to mountainous landscape at an altitude of 728 m, the small village stretches through various adjacent valleys. What is striking is the lush green of the meadows and forests in the area, which comes into its own especially in summer and early autumn. The dam itself is somewhat hidden, and the surprisingly populated yacht and houseboat harbor, which gives the lake its own character, is even more hidden.
The small town with about 800 inhabitants has not yet been discovered by mass tourism. After all, the official holiday center of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange is located here. But not only the upper class meets here in some magnificent villas, but also numerous anglers from middle and working class pursue their hobby on the wide grass and sandy beaches as well as on the campsite.
Villa Ciudad de América is on the way from Cordoba into the Calamuchita Valley, where the major holiday resorts are Villa General Belgrano (known for its beer festival) and Santa Rosa de Calamuchita are located. The distance to Cordoba is 68 km.
getting there
By plane
The nearest airport is that Cordoba airport(IATA: COR)
By bus
Buses (Sierras de Calamuchita) drive about every 2 hours from the terminal in Córdoba to the Calamuchita Valley. They stop at three places in the village. You will look in vain for a bus terminal.
In the street
Ruta Provincial 5 from Cordoba via Alta Gracia towards Santa Rosa de Calamuchita. The road is often very busy and quite dangerous at night because of the many poorly lit vehicles. But also because of the beautiful views it is worth arriving in daylight.
mobility
There are a few taxis, but otherwise you have to rely on your own feet or your bike. Because of the hills, it can hurt your legs.
Tourist Attractions
One rises on a hill in the middle of the village Open air church with a little way of the cross. Otherwise there is an interesting villa to marvel at here and there, and the harbor district (at the campsite) with its traditional wooden houses is at least worth a look.
activities
Hikers should inquire about paths, because you often end up in front of a closed gate.
Water sports can be done around the campsite, where there is also a beach. Other beaches are located south of the dam. You should not bathe around the dam itself or in the boat harbor.
shop
There are a few multi-purpose shops, but no supermarket yet. There are a handful of handicraft shops around the dam.
kitchen
The few restaurants cluster around the dam, and you can also eat at the Hotel Fatima.
