History

Founded in 1551, it is the third oldest capital in the Brazil, after savior it's from Recife. For a long time, it was just a "port city", suffering several French, British and Dutch attacks. This name is given to the city for the victory over the Indians of the region, when, seeking refuge, the Portuguese fled to the island, and then they achieved victory, renaming the village, until then known as "Vila Nova", to "Vila Nova da Vitória". The city has several nicknames, such as Honey Island, Sun City and others.

It is located in the Southeast region of Brazil. Surrounded by Vitória Bay, the main island has mangroves, beaches, granite formations and several other smaller islands around it. The municipality of Vitória is formed by an archipelago with 34 islands and a continental area. Its total area is 104.26 km², including the main island, the mainland, the coastal islands and the oceanic islands of Trindade and Martim Vaz. Before there were more than 50 islands, but now many of them have been incorporated, through landfills, into the main island. The highest point in the city is the Maciço da Fonte Grande, a granite formation measuring 308.8m, and there is the Pedra dos (Dois) Olhos, with 296 meters. The climate is tropical humid, with an average maximum of 30.4ºC, or 87°F and a minimum of 24°C, or 75°F, with greater rainfall in the months between October and January.

By airplane
