With heights of over 700 m, the high Vogelsberg is all around Baptismal font and Hoherodskopf quite guaranteed snow. While the downhill skiers get their money's worth especially on the Hoherodskopf, the Taufstein is an Eldorado for cross-country skiers. The range of groomed trails is exemplary for a low mountain range.
getting there
The entire mountain range is well served by roads. The Vogelsberg can be reached quickly via the nearby motorways. The parking spaces in the high Vogelsberg (Hoherodskopf / Taufstein and Herchhainer Höhe) are only available partiallyfree. In winter there can be bottlenecks on nice days.

Hoherodskopf ski lifts
- "Breungeshainer Hang" ski lift - approx. 1200 m long (supposedly the longest ski lift in Hesse); Slopes of 1200 - 1700 m in length with west facing
- Rennwiese ski lift - about 300 m long; lies on the southern slope of the Hoherodskopf;

Cross-country trails in the Taufstein / Hoherodskopf area
Use of the trails in Vogelsberg is free of charge. Of course, that doesn't mean that there are no costs. If you want to make a voluntary contribution to the maintenance of the cross-country ski trails, you can purchase the "cross-country trail" for 5 euros at the nature conservation information center. The badge can be stuck on the skis.
A ski rental for cross-country skiing equipment can be found at the Baptismal lodge.
The grooming of the trails in the Taufstein / Hoherodskopf area is carried out with a snow groomer. As a result, the track quality is very good.
- Taufstein trail - The trail is also known as the "Taufstein Glacier" due to its guaranteed snow. There are three variants to choose from: 3.3 km easy; 5 km medium; 7 km difficult
- Skating track - The competition trail also starts at the Taufstein trail. It is 5.4 km long
- Hainerwald trail - The trail is in the area of the fish ponds. Start is at the Taufsteinhütte (gastronomy) There are two variants to choose from: 2.5 km easy; 5 km difficult
- Köhlerwald trail - The trail is on the southern slope of the Taufstein. The start is at the Taufstein car park. From the trail there is a connection in the direction of Herchenhainer Höhe. There are two variants to choose from: 2 km easy; 6 km medium
- Hoherodskopf floodlit trail - The trail is on the Hoherodskopf. Start from the parking lot on the Hoherodskopf; Length: 1.5 km difficult

- Cross-country ski run near Hartmannshain in the area of the wind turbines (is no longer on the winter sports map)
"Panorama trails" near Ulrichstein
At Ulrichstein, two medium-difficult circular routes of 3.7 and 6.4 km in length are groomed with a snowmobile. There are beautiful views from the 600 to 630 m high cross-country trails.
