Wolmirsleben in the Bodeniederung region is a village on the Bode in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt. It is located about 15 km northwest of Staßfurt.

background

  • 937 - Wolmirsleben was first mentioned as "Wilmersleve". The spot was given away by Otto I to the Moritzkloster in Magdeburg.
  • 1227 - The town was transferred to the Magdeburg Dompropstei by the Archbishop of Magdeburg. This sold part of the land to the Berge monastery and the Marienstuhl monastery.
  • 1618 to 1648 - The Thirty Years War brought hardship and misery as a result of which the population was severely decimated.
  • 1648 - In the Peace of Westphalia, Wolmirsleben Brandenburg was struck.
  • 1817 - Construction of the road from Wolmirsleben to Atzendorf.
  • 1849 - Development of the "Sophie" lignite mine, which was closed in 1925. As a result of underground mining, the lakes (Bruchseen) were created in the area.
  • 1888 - The railway line from Etgersleben to the "Sophie" mine opens. The railway line was extended to Unseburg by 1897. The trains only ran on this route until World War II.
  • 1944 - Construction of a barrack camp for 300 so-called half-Jews. Nothing reminds us of a second camp for a further 300 prisoners and prisoners of war, who had to do essential forced labor primarily in shaft IV in Neustaßfurt.
