Wolmirsleben in the Bodeniederung region is a village on the Bode in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt. It is located about 15 km northwest of Staßfurt.
background
- 937 - Wolmirsleben was first mentioned as "Wilmersleve". The spot was given away by Otto I to the Moritzkloster in Magdeburg.
- 1227 - The town was transferred to the Magdeburg Dompropstei by the Archbishop of Magdeburg. This sold part of the land to the Berge monastery and the Marienstuhl monastery.
- 1618 to 1648 - The Thirty Years War brought hardship and misery as a result of which the population was severely decimated.
- 1648 - In the Peace of Westphalia, Wolmirsleben Brandenburg was struck.
- 1817 - Construction of the road from Wolmirsleben to Atzendorf.
- 1849 - Development of the "Sophie" lignite mine, which was closed in 1925. As a result of underground mining, the lakes (Bruchseen) were created in the area.
- 1888 - The railway line from Etgersleben to the "Sophie" mine opens. The railway line was extended to Unseburg by 1897. The trains only ran on this route until World War II.
- 1944 - Construction of a barrack camp for 300 so-called half-Jews. Nothing reminds us of a second camp for a further 300 prisoners and prisoners of war, who had to do essential forced labor primarily in shaft IV in Neustaßfurt.
getting there
By plane
The closest commercial airport with scheduled air traffic is the Leipzig / Halle Airport(IATA: LEJ). Also the Berlin airport Berlin Brandenburg Airport
(IATA: BER) can be reached via Magdeburg in about three hours.
By train
The closest train station with a bus connection is Stassfurt. The Förderstedt stop would be a little closer, but without public transport. Realistically, however, traveling by public transport is not a viable alternative.
In the street
From the north or south (Harz) you can reach Wolmirsleben on the B 81 (in Egeln turn onto the L 70 to Wolmirsleben). From the Leipzig area, the connection via the A 14 (exit Calbe / Saale) is recommended. Continue via Üllnitz, Förderstedt, Atzendorf to Wolmirsleben.
