Yanji (延吉 市; Yánjí Shì; korean. 연길 Yŏngil) is the largest city in the Yanbian Autonomous District of Koreans. It is not far from the borders with Korea and Russia. The city extends east-west on both sides of the river Bùěrhātōng.

The high Korean population of 35-40% and its culture is very visible. All signs in public spaces are bilingual. If you want to enjoy some “Korean flair” without visiting this country, you are better off here than in Dandong.

Because of the proximity to the border, depending on the general political weather situation, one reacts sensitively to (western) foreigners. This can be shown by carefully checking your passport and visa when checking into hotels. Too conspicuous you shouldn't film or photograph near the border.

- To the national park around the Paektusan. The highest mountain in the Changbai Mountains is of mythical importance to both Koreans and Manchus. The journey takes around five hours.
- The 3 Fáng chuān nature reserve (防 川 風景区) lies in the narrow Chinese strip of land that separates the Tumen from Russia as the border river to Korea. The area can be reached via road 1380 from Húnchūn or from the small Russian town 2 Chasan (Хасан).
