background

The Israeli city Yeruham was founded in 1951 three years after the War of Independence as a development city in the northern Negev, at that time the city was on the 225 ("Petroleum Road") on the main connection axis into the Arava Depression and after the Red Sea port Eilat. With the construction of the new connecting roads after Eilat, and after the great Makhtesh (Makhtesh Gadol) was less rich in minerals than assumed, the city lost its importance and increased its population only slowly.
The first settlers were immigrants from Romania, later North Africa and India; In the last few years the population has increased again due to Russian immigrants, the economic power remains poorly developed.

In the vicinity of the place is the one, which was already settled in antiquity Tel RahmaAccording to tradition, the Be'er Rahma well is said to be the one from which the biblical Hagar drew water for her son Ishmael.
