'Ain esch-Sheikh Marzuq (also Ayn / Ain Scheich / Sheikh Marzuq / Marzuk, Arabic:عين الشيخ مرزوق‎, ʿAin al-Sheikh Marzūq) is one of the few populated old villages outside of el-Farāfra in the south of the city.

background

ʿAin esch-Sheikh Marzūq is named after the esteemed saint Sheikh Marzūq from the Aiadīya family from Farāfra. He is considered to be the first resident of el-Farāfra. Until the 1980s, the hamlet consisted of eight farmsteads and in 1981 had an old and a new well. The water of the old well has a temperature of around 29 ° C. Mostly olive trees grow in the gardens.
