The Republic of Tiva or Tuva is its federal subject Russia, subject to Siberian Apartment. It borders Mongolia. The capital of the Republic of Tuva is Kizil. Until 1911 the Republic of Tuva belonged to China, while it was officially annexed to Russia (then part of the USSR) in 1944. In the language of the locals the word Tuva means "red". Most of the inhabitants of the Republic of Tiva are indigenous Tuva, of Mongol-Turkish descent. The Tuva are Buddhist in religion. Residents of the Republic of Tuva make up 22% of the population.
