Geographical notes
Ōta (大田) is a suburban area of Tokyo, located between Shinagawa is Kawasaki. The district is dominated by the presence of the Haneda airport.
The name "Ota" is a combination of Omori and Kamata, two former districts that merged to form Ota. Omori and Kamata remain the main urban centers in the area.

- 1 Tamagawadai mounds (多摩川 台 古墳 群, Tamagawadai Kofungun) (At the Tamagawadai park).
free. The Zenpō-Kōenfun mound (前方 後 円 墳) built during the 4th and 5th centuries, is one of the many mounds that can be seen in different parks around Tamagawa Station. A small free museum displays replicas of swords and other items found in the tombs, grab the free English brochure before wandering around the mound, as you may not see them as they just look like small hills.

free. A large temple with a five-story pagoda. It hosts a lantern festival called O-Eshiki every year from 11-13 October.

- 3 Tama River. It extends from Haneda Airport to Kawasaki City and beyond. A great place to jog or cycle with the locals. The best time to see it is in spring when all the cherry trees are in bloom.

10:00-21:00. Located right inside JR Kamata station and split into east and west buildings, Granduo is a typical department store that has some good reasonably priced restaurants and take-home food on the upper and basement floors.

10:00-24:00. Tsutaya is a major video and music rental shop located right inside JR Kamata Station.
How to have fun
Kamata has developed into an entertainment hub in recent years with a number of drinking spots clustered around JR Kamata Station.
Apart from Kamata, you will mostly find small bars that serve the locals, those who have a few beers before going home. If you are looking for a wild night out, then you are in the wrong neighborhood. However, there is a good atmosphere and the prices are reasonable.

Mon-Sat 18: 00-03: 00. A bar located in Omori serving good drinks, traditional bar snacks are usually served.

Excellent coffee, this slightly smoky café is filled with American and European and Japanese business visitors having espresso and a curry sandwich, or even a "bagette" (Japanese hot dog).
Where stay
The main reason to stay in Ota is if you have a flight departing from Haneda Airport.

A slightly elegant hotel with "business" (one bed and nothing more) and "first class" (a bit of space next to the bed) sections. In true capsule hotel style, there is only a curtain instead of a door, and the showers / toilets are shared. The male and female sections are separate. Free shuttle buses to other terminals.

From ¥ 12,500 / 15,500 single / double. Opened 2014 in Haneda Airport International Terminal. Convenient for transfers, early departures, and late arrivals, but rooms are small, so not the best option for stays longer than one night. Some rooms are accessible directly from the transit, without canceling immigration.
