Characteristic

Geographical location: 54 ° 47′14.9 ″ N 18 ° 05′09.3 ″ E in the years 1975–1998 the town was administratively part of the Gdańsk Province. In the second half of the 16th century, the village belonged to the Cistercian convent in Żarnowiec in the Puck poviat of the then Pomeranian voivodship. There is a pumped storage water plant nearby. Until 1990, the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland was carried out, as Żarnowiec became famous in the 1980s, when the site (on the site of the former village of Kartoszyno) was selected as the location of the Polish nuclear power plant. The project was slowly implemented for many years, but was not completed and was discontinued in the early 1990s. The remaining buildings and some concrete remains (not in Żarnowiec, but in Kartoszyn, at the southern end of Lake Żarnowieckie).

This small village on the northwestern shore of Lake Żarnowieckie is away from The Baltic Sea about 3 km.

Opposite the church (towards the south) there is a primary school attended by children from Żarnowiec, Porąb, Dębki, Lubków and Odargów.

Worth seeing

  • In Żarnowiec, it is worth stopping by the late-gothic church of the Annunciation of the Lord in the 14th-15th century. It is a very well preserved temple with a priceless heel and a choir with a balustrade, at the sight of which it is difficult not to smile. We advise you to look even higher to admire the vault. In the treasury there is a set of liturgical embroidery (17th-18th century), numerous sculptures, liturgical items and manuscripts (15th century, 17th century, 18th century). The church is surrounded by one of the oldest cemeteries in Pomerania, which is still active today, dating back to the 17th and even the 16th century.
  • In the 14th and 15th centuries there was a Cistercian monastery here (hence Żarnowiec is located on the Cistercian Trail). In 1589, it was taken over by the Benedictine nuns. The monastery was closed by the Prussian authorities during the partitions in 1834. In 1946 it was taken over by Benedictine Sisters from Vilnius. There are very nice gothic closed cloisters with a view of a not very spacious patio (inner courtyard).
  • Stone House (House of the Chaplain) from 1409.
  • Monastery wall from (16th century).
  • School building from 1909
  • 19th-century manor

On the weekend closest to St. Anna (July 26), a church fair is held here. He ends the pilgrimage with Nadola.

Approximately 2.5 kilometers to the west on road 213 there is the starting point for canoeing trips down the Piaśnica River. This is a real attraction. The hike is not long but picturesque and easy. The trip ends in Dębki, from where the organizers will take you back to the parking lot at the starting point.

Nearest neighborhood

  • In Wierzchucin, the center of the German Olympic preparations from the 1930s and the farm buildings have been preserved.
  • Nadole (Pomeranian Voivodeship) The only boat pilgrimage in Poland takes place in Nadol. There is also (on the main road that runs through the village) a small but charming open-air museum. On the occasion of the fair, attractions are organized, such as baking bread in a 100-year-old oven. If we go further south, we will see gigantic pipes of the pumped storage power plant connecting the upper (Czymanowo) and lower (Żarnowieckie Lake) reservoirs. They are 1100 meters long.
  • Bychowo (Pomeranian Voivodeship) The biggest attraction of Bychowo is a picturesque manor house built in the second half of the 19th century, there is a restaurant, a cafe and a hotel there.
  • Gniewino The town became famous in Europe during Euro 2012. Spanish players lived and trained here, radiant with the glory of the championship title. This beautiful and well-kept village was then visited by crowds of journalists and fans. In the vicinity of the village, there is the Lisewo Wind Farm, the largest in the Wejherowo district.

The biggest attraction of this area is 44 meters high and can be seen from a distance - it is the lookout tower Kashubian Eye. But the most important thing is the view from it, when we take the elevator to the viewing platform or climb 212 stairs, we will see the Baltic Sea or the buildings of the unfinished nuclear power plant in Żarnowiec with the naked eye from there.
