Looking across the volcanic cone of Tristan da Cunha

Tristan da Cunha is the most remote archipelago in the world, and the main island is the most remote inhabited island in the world. The nearest piece of land does not belong to the St. Helena Islands. St. Helena is 2,430 kilometers from the nearest African continent, and Tristan da Cunha is 2,816 kilometers from the nearest African continent. The entire population of approximately 270 residents is concentrated in the only flat location on this volcanic land, the small village of Edinburgh on the main island of the Seven Seas. There are some other uninhabited islands in the archipelago: Inaksesepur, Nightingale, Nakajima and Stoltenhof. It is about 300 kilometers away from Gove Island, which has a weather and scientific outpost.

The American Civil War severely hit whaling activities. In 1869Suez CanalThe opening and the transition from sailing ships to steamships isolated these islands because they are no longer important trade routes. 1885 was a disaster for the residents: bad weather caused them to lack food, the boats of most of the male population on the boats were lost, the rats survived the wreck and were unable to grow wheat. There is a paved road (M1) from Edinburgh (aka "settlement") to Potato Patches, about 3 miles away. There are no rental cars on Tristan, but local transportation is available in the potato fields. This kind of local transportation can be islanders’ cars, tractors, and bus service in the morning. The target customers of this bus are retirees, who can ride the bus for free. Charges £5[1][2]

Although it literally means Inaccessible Island (English: Inaccessible Island), it is still possible to visit this island. Only tourists accompanied by a guide can visit the island, and most tourists come as part of the cruise itinerary. There are no permanent settlements on the island, and you should bring your own food or drink. Like the neighbouring Gove Island, Inak Sesepur Island was listed in 1995The local area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nightingale island

Nightingale Island as seen from the northeast, Alex Island on the right, and the landing site on the right

About 38 kilometers (24 miles) southwest of Tristan da Cunha is Nightingale Island. There are two small islands to the north: Stoltenhof Island and Alex Island: the diameter is about 0.5 kilometers, and the height is not high. To 100 meters. These islands are important breeding grounds, which can accommodate 6 million migratory birds at a time (that is, 2.6 birds/square meter), which is the main attraction here. Nightingale Island is a volcanic island that experienced its first eruption (under the sea) in more than 30,000 years in 2004. In the center of Nightingale there are four small ponds (an area called "pond"). The cliffs surround most of this small island, the smallest of the Tristan da Cunha group, with a diameter of only 2 kilometers, but it is possible to land on the northern coast on the passage between the Nightingale and the Alec Islands. A hut was built at the landing for tourists to spend the night on the shore, and they have arrived at The Ponds.

Nightingale Island is covered with grass up to 3 meters high, providing shelter for many smaller birds. The unique (and only) vegetation on the island is grass (spartina) and trees (arboreal posts). The only bird endemic to the area is the rand bird: Nightingale Island Finch (Nesospiza questi), and another species of Wyck's Island Sparrow (Nesospiza wilkinsi) Can only be found on the Nightingale Islands. Tristan thrush (Nesocichla eremita) Is the third ground-dwelling bird found on the nightingale, and is a unique bird of the Tristan da Cunha group.

Gove i.

Looking up at Gove Island from the bottom

Gove Island was originally called Diego Alvarez (Diego Alvarez), but in 1721, Captain Gove saw it again on his ship to Richmond. This brought a new name to this place, and it also brought more attention. Although Gough Island is a British territory, the only permanent settlement you can find is South Africa. Because South Africa leased part of the islands from the United Kingdom for use by SANAP as the only permanent manned weather station in the South Atlantic. The island has been listedThe local area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There is no safe haven or anchorage on Gough Island. The only suitable landing point for ships is Glen Anchorage in Quest Bay on the east coast of the island.

SA Agulas set out from Cape Town to Tristan da Cunha on a rescue expedition, and then sailed to Gough Island on an annual rescue voyage. This ship carries goods and passengers.

Tourists cannot enter, and even in extreme emergencies, the crew on the yacht will not go ashore.

Getting around is very difficult: the terrain is too steep, the vegetation is dense, and it is difficult to speak. There is also no public accommodation on Gove Island.
