Alexandria is a city that rises in the floodplain formed by the Tanaro and Bormida rivers, near their confluence. To the north, it is bordered by the hills of Monferrato, rich in vineyards and to the south by the first reliefs of the Ligurian Apennines.

Its historic center is between the avenues that replaced the old fortifications.
