the Piedmont is a region of North West of the'Italy.

Understand

the Piedmont is located at the foot of the Alps and in the high plain of the Po river.

The climate is very varied depending on the proximity to the sea and the mountains. In the plains, in the region of Turin, it presents a certain continentality, with quite cold winters and hot summers. Near the coast, the climate is Mediterranean. Finally, the mountainous area presents a variety of climates linked to the altitude and the greater or lesser proximity to the sea.

Regions

The natural regions of Piedmont
Piedmontese alpine arch
The western and northern borders of Piedmont are entirely occupied by the Alps, divided from south to north by the Maritime, Cottian, Grée and Pennine Alps. The Piedmont Alps are among the most important alpine peaks, including Monte Rosa, Gran Paradiso (shared with the Aosta Valley) and Mont Viso, source of the Po.

Winter tourism is provided by internationally renowned ski resorts, many of which hosted the Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games. The Alps are a destination for all seasons: the Piedmont Alps are home to, among others, the natural park des Alpes Maritimes and the Gran Paradiso National Park, as well as some of the most important monuments in the history of art.

Piedmontese hills
The area includes a large part of southern Piedmont and stretches from the eastern part of the province of Cuneo to the south-western part of the province of Alexandria. From west to east, the Piedmontese hilly region includes the territories of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato. The typicality of the hilly landscapes of Lower Piedmont, characterized by a secular interaction between anthropogenic cultures (the vine first), forests and small countries rich in history, has recently made it possible to recognize the wine landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato as World Heritage in 2014. The main urban centers of the region are Bra, Alba, Canelli, Nizza Monferrato, Asti and Casale Monferrato.
Piedmontese Apennines
The Piedmontese section of the Apennines extends into the southern region of the province of Alexandria. The valleys of Erro and Scrivia constitute its backbone. Acqui Terme and Ovada are the main urban centers of the region which, in its southern part, borders the metropolitan city of Genoa.
Plain of the Po
Novara and Vercelli to the north of the Po, Alexandria, Casale Monferrato and Tortona to the south of the river are the main towns of the Piedmont plain.

Housing

As everywhere in Italy, the accommodation offer is very diversified: -campsites rarer than elsewhere and twice as expensive as in France, in general, -a few youth hostels, -mountain huts at reasonable prices, - "B&B" guest rooms with inhabitant, good value for money, - "Agriturismo" farmhouses-inns, also good value for money, - hotels, from 1 to 5 Italian stars ( this classification is very overrated compared to the French one, moreover the prices are much higher, for a comfort and an often questionable service), - pensions "Pensioni", very widespread in Italy. These are family hotels that do not meet category standards, with a pleasant warm atmosphere. - rental of apartments and houses, a practical and economical solution for several days. Consult well-known websites internationally and nationally.

Respect

The (real) Piedmontese are reserved and respectful of others, sometimes a little withdrawn, but if you gain their trust you can count on them.

Piedmont preserves a superb natural heritage, especially in the Alps. It is therefore common sense to continue to preserve nature.
