Geographical notes
The city of Verbania lies on the slopes of the castagnola promontory, so called for the dense chestnut groves that once covered it, which marks the northern end of the Borromean Gulf, on which the towns of Pallanza and of Suna, instead Trobaso to the north, while to the north-east, separated from the course of the San Bernardino stream, the locality of Intra which owes its name to its position between the San Bernardino and San Giovanni streams. In fact, it was the Romans who named this place intra flumina (Latin for between rivers).
