Algund (Italian Lagundo) is a place in close proximity to Meran at the foot of the Texel group in Burgrave Office. Algund is known for the Algunder Waalweg. This well-known promenade leads to the brewery of the same name in the district of Forst. The brewery is one of the largest in Italy.

Algund lives mainly from tourism and fruit and wine growing and consists of the following districts:

  • Lagundo village - surrounded by vineyards and orchards
  • Aschbach - a small mountain village at 1,360 meters to the southwest
  • Forst - with a brewery inn and a large beer garden
  • Mitterplars - on the Algunder Waalweg, with the valley station of the chairlift to Vellau
  • Mühlbach - in the bottom of the valley is the center of Lagundo
  • Oberplars - above the Algunder Waalweg
  • Vellau - at 960 meters, a 5 km long mountain road connects the district with the center

getting there

By plane

The Airport in Bolzano is 25 km away, the nearest major airports are in innsbruck and Verona, each about 150 km away. Buses connect these airports with South Tyrol several times a day.

By train

There is a stop for the Vinschgau Railway from Times to Meran.

By bus

From Merano with the city bus every 15 minutes at a price of 1.50 euros (2018)

In the street

The motorway-like expressway Meran-Bozen (MeBo) ends in the district of Forst and continues as a two-lane road over the Stelvio Pass.

  • The Algunder Waalweg has a length of 6 kilometers, difference in altitude: 211 m (descent), walking time: 2 to 3 hours plus refreshments. 1 Starting point of the Algunder Waalweg on the old country road (Strada Veccia) between Töll and Agund. The end of the road is at 1 End of the Waalweg at Gasthof Kirchner. From there you can descend in a few minutes to the end of the Tappeiner Promenade and continue on this to Merano.

Parking spaces and beer garden are on the other side of the street, which is connected to the brewery by a bridge. Tours of the brewery in German take place every Wednesday at 2 p.m. from April to October. Participation only after prior registration by telephone at 39 0473 260111.Open: Daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., closed in July. The brewery garden is open daily from 10.30 a.m. to midnight during the season.
