By plane

• Frankfurt Hahn Airport is 60 km away, but difficult to get to by train and bus.
• Frankfurt am Main airport can be reached in 2½ hours by bus and train via Koblenz.

By train and bus

• The closest train stations are Löf and Kattenes, both on the opposite side of the Moselle and about 3 km away. Both stops every hour RB 81 (Koblenz – Trier)
• RE 1 (Koblenz – Trier – Kaiserslautern (–Mannheim)) / RE 11 (Koblenz – Trier – Luxemburg) stop every hour in Kobern-Gondorf, 7 km away, and in Kobern-Gondorf, 16 km away Treis cards.
• The next train station with IC / ICE connection is Koblenz (23 km away), where you can change to the RB 81 or bus 301.
• 301: Koblenz ZOB (at the main train station) - Alkene - Castles (travel time from Koblenz approx. 40 minutes)

In the street

• The Koblenz - Alkene - Treis-Karden - Cochem - Alf - Trier
• The closest Moselle crossings are at Löf (1 km upstream) and Niederfell (8 km downstream)
• On the opposite side of the Moselle runs the Treis-Karden - Löf (bridge) - Koblenz

• The timetables of the excursion boats must be checked.

The ruins are the remains of the castle built in 1248. There is a holiday apartment on the site.Open: November 16 to February 28: closed.Price: adults € 3.50.Last change: Jan. 2016 (information may be out of date)

Historic city center

• Wiltburg Castle: - built from 1350 as a castle house for the Archbishops of Trier; today in private hands

• Maltese House: - one of the oldest houses in the town

• Remains of the city fortifications - With the completion of the fortifications, Alken was granted city rights in 1331 (by the Elector of Trier and the Archbishop of Cologne). Retained parts of the fortification:
  • Customs and signal tower from approx. 1256. It was used to control shipping.
  • Trap gate - Former main entrance to the city

Churches

• The old 50.25017.44862 St. Michaelskirche)Old St. Michaelskirche - The church was built over the place from 1015. A beautiful staircase with 14 stations of the cross leads from the village to the church. The historical interior is well worth seeing. with wall frescoes from 1350. There is also an ossuary and a cemetery of honor for victims of the First World War.

• The new 50.24757.44853 St. Michael's Church was built in the village in 1849. The building has a remarkable interior (baroque old).

• Hike on the "Time travel" theme trail - The cultural circular route runs between Alken and Oberfell in the slopes of the Moselle valley.
