Alps is a community in the district Wesel. The place with almost 13,000 inhabitants is also part of the cross-border Euregio Rhine-Waal.

Alpen lies on the left bank of the Rhine between Xanten and Rheinberg and consists of the districts of Alpen, Menzelen, Bönning, Drüpt, Huck, Bönninghardt and Venn. It's in the northwest Grenzdyck nature reserve, which is also located in the Sonsbeck and Xanten area.

The closest airport is in Dusseldorf.

By train

The one from the NordWestBahn served regional train "The Lower Rhine" ( RB31) drives from Duisburg above Moers (and Alps) until after Xanten. The clocking is at least hourly from 7 a.m. to shortly before midnight, more often during rush hour in the morning and in the late afternoon, starting later on Saturday and Sunday morning.

By bus

Several bus routes of the VRR drive across the Alps, the central transfer point is Adenauerplatz. Among other things, there is the express bus line SB7, which connects Wesel, Alps, Issum and Geldern every hour. The customer center is located at Adenauerplatz (Daniela Maschek travel center, Burgstraße 19, Mon-Fri 9:00 a.m.-1: 00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.-6: 30 p.m., Sat 9:00 a.m.-12: 30 p.m.) and the old people's home (Alpener Reisebüro, Lindenallee 3, Mon-Fri 9: 00-12: 30 and 14: 30-18: 00, Sat 9: 00-12: 00 open).

In the street

The A 57 goes southwest past the Alps, with the descent 6 "Alps" you come to the B 58, which now runs east around the city. To the northeast of the village, it crosses with the B 57.

In addition to the bus routes mentioned above, there is also a citizens' bus that connects the districts of Bönninghardt and Veen with the center of Alpen and the hospital in Xanten.

Moth hill
  • the moth of the Lords of the Alps with two fortresses and moats on a heaped mound of earth - only the ground monument of the castle is preserved, the stones were built in the Burgstrasse. After all, the noble family is responsible for the name of the community.
  • the early baroque Protestant church dates from the beginning of 1600, its special features are a bronze figure on a three-tiered base (Elector Amalie) and the last Lower Rhine monument organ by J. E. Teschemacher
  • several Sculptures, e.g. B. the broom binder, the crow tree, the history fountain or "Aunt Sina" with Wippött. An artist's studio with a sculpture park can be found at the old waterworks.
  • the Mill Bönning-Rill was built in 1844 and stood in the wind until 1935, today privately owned and inhabited.
  • Local history museum in Veen in a former elementary school
