The NordWestBahn (NWB) is a private railway company that operates local transport lines in Germany. After Deutsche Bahn AG, it is the largest company that offers regional trains. Their main areas of application are Bremen, Osnabrück and the Ruhr area.
history
With the privatization of Deutsche Bahn AG, more and more local transport routes were tendered for private railway companies. To enter this area, the NordWestBahn was founded. It is a subsidiary of Transdev GmbH (formerly Veolia Verkehr) Berlin, which in turn is a joint subsidiary of the French transport company of the same name with Stadtwerke Osnabrück. The company was founded in 2000 and is based in Osnabrück.
fleet
The NordWestBahn relies exclusively on multiple units and multiple units, i.e. no classic trains with locomotives and trailers. It uses four different models. Since it often runs on routes that are not or not yet electrified, NWB also has numerous diesel-powered vehicles in operation. 43 LINT 41 railcars (diesel), 43 Talent railcars (diesel) and 35 Alstrom Coradia Continental (3 or 5-part) (electric). Most of the vehicles are rented, but some vehicles also belong to the company itself.
