Twist rings

Twist rings is a town in the district of Diepholz. It is located on the southeast edge of the Wildeshauser Geest and 30 km southwest of Bremen.

Straw processing played an important role in Twistringen for centuries. At times a third of the population was employed in the branch of industry. Huts, jackets for glass bottles and drinking straws were made. For the 750th anniversary of the city of Twistringen, a straw hat with a diameter of 5.5 meters was made in 2000. This hat earned an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

  • 2  Hünenburg, Am Ringwall, 27239 Twistringen. It was probably built as a protective castle before the year 900. The ring wall has a diameter of a good 80 meters with a wooden gatehouse.Price: free entry.
  • 3  Berry nature trail and wild rose trail, Abbenhäuser Weg, 27239 Twistringen. On an approximately 200-meter-long nature trail, 85 different local berry and fruit bushes from A for chokeberry to Z for cinnamon raspberry are shown. Many plants have information boards and some benches invite you to take a break. A wild rose trail, also around 200 meters long, has been laid out right next to it.
