By train
The next train station is Kirchhain on the Frankfurt - Gießen - Kassel line. Regional trains and regional express trains with double-deck coaches stop in Kirchhain. From there, the bus line 382 runs at least once an hour Monday through Friday. Reduced service on weekends. (As of June 2014)
From Kirchhain train station you walk approx. 5 km to Amöneburg.

Collegiate Church of St. Johann
- Castle ruins - The ruin is on the highest point of the mountain. Small remains of the building have been preserved. The small park invites you to linger. There is a beautiful view from the remnants of the wall that can be walked on.
- automatic info service: There is an information room in a small vault. A tape announcement with the history of Amöneburg runs here - controlled by a motion detector.
- Tip: below the defensive wall one has a clearer view of the Ohm valley than from the wall.
- Marketplace with half-timbered buildings - There is a small half-timbered town hall and some pretty half-timbered houses to look at. The Martinsbrunnen is also worth mentioning. The gastronomy invites you to take a break in the cozy square.
- St. John Baptist Church at the castle ruins
- Local history museum and nature conservation information center in the old town hall - Shown is a collection on the city's history as well as an exhibition on native flora and fauna
