Asprovalta is a small town in Macedonia, NorthGreece.
background
Asprovalta (approx. 3000 Ew.) Is a particularly popular seaside resort with Greeks with beautiful beaches between Thessaloniki and Kavala. On summer weekends the place fills up with bathers from Thessaloniki and Bulgaria. Next Kassandra Asprovalta is one of the favorite seaside resorts of the people from Thessaloniki. The season lasts from May to the end of September, after which the place falls into 'hibernation'.
getting there
The closest Airport is Thessaloniki (100km) and Kavala (110km). From there you can reach Asprovalta by long-distancebusrunning between Thessaloniki and Kavala, Xanthi, Komotini, Alexandroupolis drive and stop here. The place is very conveniently located on the motorway and the main road from Thessaloniki direction Turkey. With the Sailboat is the best place to anchor in the small port of Stavros about 8 km south of Asprovalta.
mobility
Asprovalta is small and flat, so you can easily get anywhere on foot or bike. A car is essential for excursions in the area. Rental cars are available on site.
Tourist Attractions
- 1 Rentina Castle (Κάστρο Ρεντίνας).
A strategically important castle that was built in the 4th century AD. was built on a hill in a very beautiful landscape. Although it is a large castle and very close to a busy road, it is not easy to see. The fortresses of Rentina are reasonably well preserved, as are the impressive remains of a settlement. Due to its strategic location, it has a very eventful history with Byzantine, Frankish, Serbian and Turkish lords of the castle.
- 2 Vrasna Tower (Vrasna Tower)..The ruins of the tower from the 15th century are located in the courtyard of the church of the village of Vrasna.
- 3 Asprovalta castle ruins. The fortress was most likely a station at the Via Egnatia called Pennana. The station must have been used long after the Romans, possibly long after the Ottoman conquest.
- 4 Amphipolis
(Αμφίπολη). The formerly important city was founded as an Athenian colony in 438/437 BC. BC because of its strategic location, near the fertile Strymon Valley and the Pangeo gold mines. The numerous finds from the excavations are in the Archaeological Museum of Amfipolis and the Archaeological Museum of Kavala. As in most of the archaeological sites, former temples were built over with churches, so that you can mainly see the foundation walls of basilicas on the excavation field. In the immediate vicinity there are still several ruins of towers from the Byzantine era.
- 5 Amphipolis Lion (Λέων Αμφιπόλεως).Grave monument from the 4th century BC It was built near the ancient city of Amphipolis in honor of the Admiral Laomedon, who came from the island of Lesbos. The lion's body is around four meters high; together with the pedestal, it measures over eight meters.
- 6 Stageira (Αρχαία Στάγειρα).Birthplace of Aristotle, the greatest philosopher of antiquity and the teacher of Alexander the Great, the city was founded around 655 BC. founded by colonists from Andros. After the Persian Wars, it entered 424 BC. Joined the First Athenian League, later rebelled against it and became an ally of the Spartans against Athens during the Peloponnesian War. Later the city joined the Chalkidian League and became 348 BC. Conquered by King Philip II. Recent excavations show the early classicist city fortifications, which have been preserved in very good condition, various public buildings in the agora (classicist stoa), an archaic sanctuary, the thesmophorion, private houses from the classical and Hellenistic times and the city's waterworks.
- 1 Rentina valley (Ρεντίνα Θεσσαλονίκης).It is a scenic, densely overgrown valley that begins from the west in the town of Rentina on Lake Volvi and ends in the bay of Strimonikos.
- 2 Lakes Volvi & Koronia (Βόλβη).2 large shallow lakes that are particularly valued by ornithologists because of the large number of birds.
- 3 Varvara waterfall. 2 beautiful waterfalls in a wonderful landscape near Olymbiada, which can be reached on foot from a parking lot. The dirt road to the parking lot (4 km) is only recommended for 4x4s.
- 1 Church of St. Georgki. Church in a very beautiful location and fantastic view above Nea Kerdylia.

- 1 Asprovalta-Nea Vrasna beach. The approx. 11 km long sandy beach begins in the south at the seaside resort Stavros above Nea Vrasna, Asprovalta, Riviera to Serraiki Akti in the North. It is approx. 200 m wide, so that even in the high season it is never really crowded. Areas with beach bars with sun loungers and umbrellas alternate with unmanaged beach sections. All water sports common in tourist areas are offered, as well as a large number of restaurants, cafes, bars.
- 2 Beaches Logkari-Sikia. North of Asprovalta there are a number of other beautiful, partly hardly visited beaches near the towns Logkari, Akti Neon Kerdilion, Sikia. Because of the good parking space, they are popular with motorhome drivers.
- 3 Ofriniou-Kariani beach. About 30 km in the direction of Kavala is the next large beach holiday area, which is particularly popular with Greeks Serres and Bulgarians are popular.
- 4 Loutra Eleftheron beach (Λουτρά Ελευθερών Καβάλας).Shortly before Loutra Eleftheron is the only one nudist beach the area about 40 km from Asprovalta.

Asprovalta and Nea Vrasna are rather quiet holiday areas and not party centers. It is precisely for this reason that families with children and older travelers come here. Nevertheless there is enough entertainment in the many restaurants, cafes, bars and also beach parties in the beach bars. Those who like to dance and want to go out late are recommended Roxy Club between Asprovalta and Nea Vrasna. The parties start after midnight and end at dawn.
