The town Bad Durrheim is a brine thermal bath and climatic health resort in the region Black Forest Baar.

The history of the health resort begins in 1822 with the development of a salt warehouse. The construction of a salt works started in the following year. The extracted brine is processed into table salt in boiling pans; from 1851 it is used for bathing. The place Dürrheim received the title in 1921 bath. Salt production was discontinued in 1972, the health resort was expanded: Bad Dürrheim was granted city rights in 1974, in 1976 it was recognized as a "climatic health resort", and since 1985 it has been the highest "saltwater health resort" in Europe.

The localities of Biesingen, Hochemmingen, Öfingen, Oberbaldingen and Sunthausen have been districts of Bad Dürrheim since 1971/72.
