Fastnet rock
  • Southwest of Baltimore is the Celtic Sea Fastnet rock (German Fastnet-Felsen, Irish Carraig Aonair ("lonely rock")), a rocky cliff with a lighthouse, which is the end point of a famous sailing regatta (which ended fatally for numerous participants in 1979 due to a severe sea storm). The rock is approached by excursion boats.

  • To the rewarding southwest tip of Ireland, the Mizen Head, with imposing cliffs and a radio station (visit per person 7.50 EUR, senior citizens 6 EUR) it is not far by car. The wide sandy beach of Barley Cove is very close by. Drive on over the second headland Sheep Head with a small café and hiking opportunities.
