Barr is a french Commune in the department Bas-Rhin, in the Alsace.
background
Politically, the municipality belongs to the arrondissement Sélestat-Erstein and is the administrative seat of the canton Barr.
It is located in the middle of the vineyards at the foot of Mont Ste.-Odille and is the wine metropolis of the Bas-Rhin department.

Tourist Attractions
The steeply sloping Rathausplatz is supported by the salmon-red main front of the Town hall (Hôtel de Ville) dominated. The richly decorated Renaissance building was built in 1640. Barr's annual wine market is also held here. A staircase leads through the beautiful inner courtyard of the town hall to the Saint Martin Church. The bottom four tower floors date from the 12th century, but the actual church building was not erected until 1850. Inside there is an organ made by the Stiehr brothers in 1852.
The is located on Rue Sultzer, outside the former city walls La Folie Marco called baroque building. The museum of regional living culture is located in it.
