Bath is a town in the Southern tier of the US state new York. The place is the administrative seat of Steuben County. The small Village of Bath is in the center of the sprawling Town of Bath.

background

The city was founded in 1793 as part of a basic investment project by Briton William Johnstone Pulteney (1729-1805), one of Britain's richest men. Bath got its name either after the city of the same name in England or in honor of Lady Bath, the daughter of a large landowner. Bath was never a seaside resort.

getting there

The closest airport is the Elmira Corning Regional Airport in Big flats. The nearest Amtrak train stations are in Rochester (86 km) and Syracuse (170 km). The bus company Greyhound has a stop in Bath, which is served daily. A line of the bus company Chemung County Transit System (CCTS) connects Bath with Corning and Elmira (Departure point at the County Building).
