Balkans - region Europe, covering approximately the area of the Balkan Peninsula. However, the name refers less to geography and more to a historical and cultural community.

Countries sometimes included in the Balkans
- Moldova - although it is geographically not in the Balkans, it is often included among them, for example due to its official nature Romanian language (Moldovan is a dialect of Romanian).
- Slovenia - the Balkans sometimes include its southern part, but in general this country has not much in common with the Balkans.
